Alise Midtfjord Lohre – Turning Science into Ventures

Some people follow opportunities. Alise creates them.

As a Partner, Data Scientist, and Chief Scientific Officer at Intellectual Labs, Alise is pioneering AI venture building in Norway, turning cutting-edge research into scalable, high-impact startups. Her ability to bridge the gap between deep tech and real-world applications has earned her recognition as one of Norway’s 50 Leading Women in Tech 2025, a well-deserved acknowledgment of her expertise, leadership, and innovation.

But her journey didn’t start with entrepreneurship—it started with a deep curiosity for science and technology and a drive to make AI truly work for people, businesses, and society.

For Alise, technology has always been more than just a tool—it’s a driving force for her curiosity and desire to make an impact on the world.

Building Science-Based Ventures for Suistaninable Futures

Alise has always been been drawn to science and technology, and fascinated by how data shapes decision-makingConsequently, she embarked on an academic path, where she researched how to make advanced data-driven methods, such as machine learning and AI, become more trustworthy and aligned with real-world problems.

Although Alise gained invaluable knowledge and scientific competence, she noticed a gap: Much of the work remained within academic papers rather than being translated into tangible solutions for society.

That’s when she decided to become an entrepreneur. Today, Alise works in collaborative teams to build ventures that turn AI research into real-world solutions and products. These ventures are created to help businesses, industries, and society to use AI to harness smarter, more just, and sustainable futures.

Alise's Ventures

Right now, I feel incredibly fortunate to be involved in some of Norway’s most cutting-edge initiatives through our "AI Venture Studio". Our constant research and development in AI allows us to tackle projects that many other workplaces can only dream about.

Have you ever encountered gender biases or stereotypes in the tech and startup ecosystem?

“I have indeed come across gender biases in various settings — corporate, research, and also in the startup sphere. Especially in the beginning of my career; as a young woman in tech, I sometimes felt my inputs weren’t taken as seriously at the outset. But after proving my capabilities, I earned respect and trust. I believe we should aim for an industry culture where everyone is given trust and respect from the beginning, so demonstrating our competence feels like a natural aspect of our roles rather than a forced need to overcome bias.”

While the startup world is evolving, Alise said that there is still a diversity gap – especially in investment circles. Research has shown that male investors are more likely to fund male-led teams, which makes it harder for female entrepreneurs to raise capital. To challenge this dynamic, Alise hopes to facilitate more women’s engagement in startups, AI, and venture capital.

What advice does she have for women entering the tech and startup world?

“Go for it! You’re shaping the future of the industry by stepping into this space. We need more women in technology.”

Redefining how deep-tech companies are built for success

At Intellectual Labs, Alise is at the forefront of some of Norway’s most ambitious AI projects. She thrives on bringing teams together, leveraging diverse expertise, and turning complex research into scalable companies.

Some of the groundbreaking ventures she is currently involved in include:

  • Ambr Institute – Revolutionizing healthcare through AI-driven health profiling, working with leading clinics, hospitals and universities to create personalized and preventive healthcare solutions.
  • AlphaEight – An AI-powered hedge fund, bringing together Norway’s top financial minds to build the next era of data-driven investment strategies.
  • FactoryMind – Transforming manufacturing through AI-driven process optimization and automation.

Alise’s passion is being in the thick of things. Despite her leadership role, Alise remains deeply involved in technology. As she guides teams to build products and companies that achieve real impact, she stays hands-on in AI and machine learning.

A Future Driven by Innovation

For Alise, success isn’t just about technological breakthroughs—it’s about creating environments where diverse teams thrive, and seeing innovation influence positive change in our reality. She believes that flexibility, inclusivity, and a culture of true collaboration are key to making tech and entrepreneurship more welcoming to women and underrepresented groups

By surrounding yourself with people who value diverse perspectives, and by embracing what makes you unique, you won’t just foster innovative solutions, but also inspire others to do the same.”

Her journey is proof that science and business don’t have to exist in separate worlds—they can work together to challenge the status quo, push innovation boundaries faster, and build for the future.

And this is just the beginning. 🚀
